8 Vector vs YSG

The beef between Vector and YSG (a division of Young Target Motors growing, led by Obiora Obianodo’s first son Guru Transport – Chef Vincent Obianodo) began in 2013 after the rapper complained about his progress and his nonchalant attitude to his career. He suggested that they employ more professionals and if they refused, Vector hired and paid them personally. Things degenerated after Vector – who was at the peak of his career – went on vacation to the United States. On his return, Obiora, leader of the YSG, accused him of signing a contract there. Vector rejected, but weeks later he was summoned by the Lagos Police Command, Festac. He was charged with “breach of contract” and claims that he hired foreign hands to work for him. His parents were involved (because his father is a retired policeman) and this was settled by mutual agreement.

Feeling vulnerable and threatened Vector provided the car and the apartment YSG had offered him and continued his daily life until he was arrested and detained until his lawyers come in. The label filed a preliminary injunction against Vector at a federal court and forbade him to record a song as an artist to compose or release any material. During 9 months, his career was interrupted when he fought against the injunction until both parties settle out of court – with the purchase of his contract from Vector, at a discounted price. The whole debacle ended with an open letter from the artist in which he apologized to the label for “everything”.

Today, Vector is still a force to reckon with in the music scene. YSG, well, not heard anything from them in a while.
